9 Rings of Ash Flowers, Brecon Beacons National Park Spring 2015
This drawing was made on a sunny April day from the bottom fields of Hatterall Hill. That week the ash flowers had just begun to drop leaving the ground below the trees peppered with little brown florets, some with pale yellow stalks. The florets were gathered from under the tree in the field and laid in rings. As usual the drawing emerged through its making, it was neither pre-conceived nor measured out but developed freehand through its making. The final drawing measured c. 8ft diameter and was photographed from above using the drone.
