Catkin Circle Drawing, Brecon Beacons National Park, Herefordshire 

This small sketch was made using found fallen hazel catkins from underneath a hedge in the Brecon Beacons National Park during a wet February in 2014. There were many catkins on the ground after heavy rain and high winds which had blown them to the floor. A beautiful range of textures and colours was observed in the different catkins – the closed younger catkins having a pink blush to their scaley forms and a brighter vivid yellow/green colour to the lighter open and expanded flowers. The drawing measured c. 18 inches in diameter
