Slate Drawing, Newport Sands, Pembrokeshire July 2018

This drawing was made on Newport Sands beach on a summer’s day in July during low tide. The smooth flat pieces of slate were collected from the coves and rockpools and then inserted into the wet sand using their long edges. The resulting ‘sails’ or ‘fins’ formed an undulating rhythmic pattern that snaked from one of the coves out to sea. The drawing measured c. 10ft x 20ft before the sea washed it away.
